HOW TO PLAY 31

THE DEAL

Three cards are dealt to each player. One card is turned over to start the pile. The other cards form the deck. Each player is given three chips.

THE PLAY

Player one can take one card from either the deck or the pile, e.g. 10. Players attempt to score thirty one points, see Points Per Card.

HOW TO WIN
The player with chips left at the end is the winner. Collect enough points in each round to not be last and lose chips.

DISCARD A CARD

Player one then discards one of their four cards e.g. 6♦️. Players then take it in turns to follow the same process.

THIRTY ONE

If a player has thirty one points in their hand, they can knock to the round end immediately. All other players lose one chip.

KNOCK

Players can only knock when it is their turn. They do not get to pick up a card. All other players then get one more turn. The player with the lowest score loses a chip.

LOWEST SCORE

If the player that knocked has the lowest score, they lose two points. If they tied as lowest score with another player, only the other player loses a chip.

TIE

If two or more other players, who did not knock, tie for the lowest score they both lose a chip.

POINTS PER CARD

Players can only score points by counting cards in the same suit e.q. 10♠️, J♠️, A♠️ scores thirty one points. Three of the same number scores thirty points e.g. 3, 3, 3.

NO CHIPS

If a player has no chips they can still play. If they lose with no chips then they are out of the game.

THE WINNER

The last player to have chips remaining is the winner. They get to keep all the chips on the table.

TIPS

Collectinq a set can be easier than a player thinks, especially when combining it with trying to collect high scoring cards of one suit.

STRATEGY

The best players adapt their strategy based on the cards other players do or do not pick up as well as the cards they discard.

EXTRAS

If no player knocks before the deck runs out of cards then the round is a draw.
