INTRODUCTION

A game for plavers with quick reactions and excellent concentration.

HOW TO PLAY SPIT

THE DEAL

All cards are dealt evenly. Players create five piles of cards face down. Each pile has one additional card, from one to five cards. The top card on each pile is dealt face up. Other cards form the player’s deck.

THE PLAY

Each player takes one card from their deck and places it face down into the middle to form a ‘spit’ pile. Both players say “spit” and turn over the card. Players start adding cards to the ‘spit’ piles at the same time.

HOW TO WIN

Players attempt to play all of their cards into the ‘spit’ piles to win the round. They then
try to take the smallest ‘spit’ pile. The winner is the player without cards.

HIGHER OR LOWER

Players try to place a card that is one higher or one lower than the cards on either ‘spit’ pile e.g. 3 onto the 4. They can use any face up card in their piles. Any face down card at the top of a pile can then be turned over.

NEW CARD FROM DECKS

Players try to play as many cards as possible onto the two ‘spit’ piles. When neither player can play, both players call “spit”. Two new cards are then dealt from the player’s decks, face up onto the ‘spit’ piles e.a. 5 and Q.

MATCHING CARDS

If a player has matching cards on their piles they can place one on top of each other e.g. 7♣️ on 7♥️. They then turn over the first face down card. Cards can also be moved onto an empty pile.

SLAP A PILE

When one player has no more cards left in their piles, both players call “spit” and slap a pile.
Players take the pile they have slapped first and add them to their deck along with any cards left in their piles. Both players shuffle and deal their five piles again, see The Play.

THE ACE

The A can be played as a high or low card, e.g. after playing a 2 or K there is the option to play an A.

LESS THAN FIFTEEN CARDS

When one player has less than fifteen cards, they use the cards to create as many piles as possible. There will only be one ‘spit’ pile, created by the other player.

THE WINNER

If the player who started the round with fifteen cards or lower plays all of their cards first, they are the winner.

TIPS

Once a card is played it cannot be taken back (unless it was not one higher or lower than the top card).

STRATEGY

Players should monitor their opponent’s progress. If an opponent is close to playing all of their cards, they should be ready to slap the smallest ‘spit’ pile.

EXTRAS

If neither player has cards in their decks when “spit” is called, the game is a draw.

VARIATION

The first person to play all of their cards gets to choose the ‘spit’ pile they want to use in the next round.
